  2. Apr 8, 2024Some RSS readers offer a button to activate the full text for a feed item. When clicked, the RSS reader will automatically go out to the web source of a feed item, grab the full content, and show it to the user without the user ever leaving the RSS reader. But RSS Readers don't do this automatically for every feed item, so the full-text option ...

On Wednesay he posted that MSDN was limiting its RSS feed, dropping full text, because they were serving terabytes through RSS, and weren't happy with the economics. Either Scoble didn't explain or I wasn't paying attention, because they were doing something very strange: aggregating all their blogs into one feed. They have thousands of blogs.

  7. Miniflux can give you a CSS selector to pull in the content when it fetches. There's are good arguments against putting the full content the feed as the size of the feed will be much larger, you can miss the click-thru if you are trying to advertise, & a number of features won't quite look right in your reader if the page author is using specific CSS or JS.

Technology blogger Robert Scoble struck something of a nerve when he decried RSS scraping in responding to a post that claimed such scraping is acceptable as long as the format is in RSS.. Many bloggers chimed in on both sides of the issue. Several pointed to an earlier post by Scoble where he claimed that, "By publishing RSS as full text you're buying into a system where your words will ...

I have to disagree with you here. I prefer RSS feeds with partial text. I read a lot of feeds using Bloglines on my Treo 600. Some of the blogs I read are quite wordy and take forever to load on my mobile device. I prefer less text, if I want to read more, I'll mark the post and come back to it later when I'm using Bloglines on a desktop ...
