Just a quick note: I actually have two main feeds on this blog (as well as per-category feeds). The "main" feed is everything that makes it to the front page, and can be found here.. The "complete" feed is pretty close to everything that I post that is a blog (yeah, I'm not going to get into it, it's just a b-word vs. larger platform thing again), and can be found here.

My two cents--feed each subpanel from the main panel. Oh, and don't think that an inspection will necessarily be thorough enough to identify problems with your work. Just like any other aspect of construction, there can be installation mistakes that aren't obvious (even in a thorough inspection) and that don't show up until much later.

Apr 20, 2024Example: Window A/Cs suck up a lot of power. Place one in two rooms on the same circuit and you are bound to trip a breaker. Coffee pot and microwave on the same circuit and you will probably trip a breaker. This just was not the case back in the 40's and 50's You title is a bit odd---> Splitting main feeds in breaker box to multiple breakers

The main breaker without any switch gear would become the disconnecting means. Therefore it would appear from this definition the conductors feeding the MCC could be the service conductors. Article 240.1 defines a tap conductor as "a conductor other than a service conductor…" which does support that these are service conductors as long as ...

He installed a 8 circuit subpanel in the detached garage and used an 80A backfed breaker on the incoming feed, matching the breaker amperage at the main panel. ... since the house has a Siemens main panel, I wanted to match brands and breakers.) The Siemens panel came with a 100A main breaker. My electrician says he will need to remove the 100A ...

May 7, 2024Existing home has a 400 amp service. One 200 amp main feeds existing home the other 200 amp breaker space is free. There is a 100 amp breaker in the extra spaces feeding a 400 sq.ft. older home. Customer wants to use the free 200 amp to feed an addition around the older home but still keep the existing home on the 100 amp breaker. My question is:

I'd say your easiest bet is to replace the service with a 200 amp meter main feed through. The install two 100 amp sub-feed breakers for the panels.

Yes, this is a 200A service. When multiple main disconnects are used, the service is sized by the service entrance conductor, not the total of the main disconnects. For example, it is common to have 3 or 4 100A main breaker panels in a 3 or 4 family house that is fed with a 200A service using 4/0 aluminum.

Meters and main breakers at one end of the building 200 amp three phase under ground to unit I am working on feeds a 200 amp three phase Challenger panel. Not much load just lights and plugs. The unit will be a film studio. The owner wants another two-amp panel in the studio portion of the unit to feed lights and cameras for shooting film.
