Me showing Monique the magic of flagging and unflagging and showing how it changes the starred / unstarred in the Gmail web interface. Photo by Duane Storey, you can buy some great photos of Vancouver from him.. I've spent this past week or so having switched to using Gmail's new IMAP interface. I had switched to using the web-only interface for perhaps the last year or so, and it worked quite ...

I have just changed Mail.app (v2.1) to start using Gmail's IMAP rather than POP3. It initially took hours (almost a whole day) to synchronise all the folders on my Mac with the Gmail server, but with about 3000 messages to sync, I guess that is understandable. *Configuring the Google Mail account in Apple Mail* After you have added your Google Mail IMAP account to Mail.app, you'll find a section for Google Mail in Mail.app's sidebar with subfolders like "All Mail" (which has in turn several subfolders) and folders for each label you created with GoogleMail. Now you have to configure the account ...

  9. Outlook 2007 was very buggy with IMAP and more than usual with GMAIL. The move to OAuth security didn't help matters. 2010 is better, but still buggy in my experience. I haven't tried any newer version than that since Outlook is complete overkill for anything I'd need it for.

Note: If you are outside of the US you may need to use imap.googlemail.com and smtp.googlemail.com instead of imap.gmail.com and smtp.gmail.com. Note: for Gmail Apps accounts, you'll need to put in your full email address wherever you see an @gmail.com above.
