  2. Ideal would be multiple variations of each. I back up my photos on iCloud and Google Photos, and on my computer. My computer regularly backs up to an external hard drive as well, but specifically my photos also get backed up every once in a while to a hard drive that I store in my safe, which helps protect it against house fires.

    I have been re-thinking my photo backup strategy lately. Up to now I have been using external hard drives to back up photos, along with an identical backup copy of everything on a second hard drive, and then finally a third copy kept on Amazon photos. I think I am going to stop using Amazon, or any cloud storage, for a few reasons.
  4. I can use Google Photos' builtin "cleanup old photos" feature on my phone, to keep free space up. Whenever I run out of "original size" backup space in Google Photos I can just tell it to compress old photos, as they'll already be on my NAS.     Create two partitions on the external drive - one for the Photos library, one for a Time Machine backup of the same. This would allow me to revert modifications to the library. Cons: Having a Time Machine backup and a Photos library on the same drive is not recommended by Apple, so I would need yet another HDD.
