  1. Business 2.0 writer John Battelle has published his thoughts on why Apple should acquire TiVo, the "beleaguered" personal video recorder company. "With a depressed market cap and nearly 625,000 customers, TiVo is a steal. [Apple CEO Steve Jobs] would have to unwind some messy licensing agreements, but he's done that before.

Mike Ramsey, TiVo's CEO, must decide on which direction to build the company. Facing an onslaught of new competitors, a huge opportunity in the cable industry, and the possibility of becoming the new "user interface" for TV entertainment, Ramsey must balance the demands for profitability with the hope of driving TiVo to mass adoption.
  3. Lots of products out there from different competitors that do similar things. We were talking about the TiVo's next steps. Are you saying this doesn't sound like a logical next step? Obviously, they have to start supporting ATSC 3.0 some at some point. Streaming the other devices seems pretty obvious too.
  4. TiVo Digital Video Recorders (DVR) are beginning to arrive at Apple Stores nationwide. The stores are currently carrying two models -- a Series 2 DVR model with 40 hours recording time and one with 80 hours recording time. The 40 hour TiVo is priced at US$249, while the 80 hour unit sells for $349. The models we saw today were not being displayed, but were instead still in their boxes under a ...

TiVo has no incentive, nor desire to update their consumer DVR. It that was the case, then we would still have a 4 tuner 2gb OTA Edge. I was previously a beta tester for TiVo going all the way back to 2003. They used to be in step with changing technology. But no longer. Case in point. They could have had the Stream connect to TiVos.
  8. It has a lot less storage space than my TiVo, but it supports basically the same apps as the new TiVo Edge does, six tuners, and supports 4K and has the same commercial skip that TiVo does. I have to pay 10.00/month for DVR service, plus 5.00/month for the DVR rental, basically the same price as I was paying for TiVo service.
