TIVO is basically like an operating system. There are many types of PVR's (Personal Video Recorder) out there. A PVR generally has a hard disc and some sort of tuner. You can get a TV board for a computer and have a PVR of sorts. Replay also makes PVR's which competed with Tivo, but I think that they are going the way of the dinosaur.

Ha. Once TiVo says so, press the TiVo button at the top of your remote. From the main TiVo menu, choose "Messages and Setup", "Phone and Network Setup," Connect to the TiVo service now". TiVo will connect for about an hour, downloading new software that will let you enter a good old Canadian postal code. Your Canadian postal code ...

Tivo stops selling units directly, but O Canada is finally supported On Saturday, a former employee of a company that handled all the TiVo.com sales let slip that TiVo is no longer selling units directly from their site, instead linking to Best Buy as the primary place to buy one. This seems like a good move to me, as it lets TiVo

No TiVo in Canada - so a PVR it has to be It really frustrates me at times that in Canada, we pay more for less consumer choice simply because the market structure is so much less competitive than it is south of the border. High speed internet, cable TV, phone services, online music, the list goes on.

Tivo in Canada. 07 Jun 2007 / 2 Comments. I had originally planned to post about TiVo and other PVR options but this post is pretty long in just talking about my TiVo experiences so I'll split the topic into a couple of posts. Stay tuned for future posts about using a PC based PVR solution as well as using an Xbox (the first one) to view ...

Tivo is a standalone company which basicly works with any other provider, including with a regular antenna. Mind you, if you're in Canada, as I am, make sure you buy a Series2 so you can use the broadband connection instead of the phone line, and plus, Series2 supports canadian postal codes without any hacking or mod involved.
