  2. We begin our story of Irish history with Ancient Ireland which dates back to approximately 10,500 BC, the Palaeolithic period. We'll look at who were the people of Ancient Ireland and how they came to arrive in different waves, bringing with them new methods of hunting, farming, house building and even burial methods.
  3. The High Kings of Ireland is a significant part of Irish history and mythology. They were historical and legendry figures known as an Ard Rí who claimed Lordship of the entire island of Ireland. The High Kings, or at least their stories, date as far back as 1500 BC so their existence is part legendary, fiction, and historical.

Whilst finds of Neolithic axes have been made throughout Ireland, though mainly in Ulster, they have also been found in the south of England which suggests a two-way trade existing between Ireland and Britain.   5. Brehon Law, the ancient legal system of Ireland, was practiced from the Iron Age until the 17th century. Named after the "brehons" (judges), it was a complex, customary law rooted in oral tradition. The laws covered various aspects of daily life, including property rights, marriage, contracts, and criminal justice.
  6. Hill of Tara (Co. Meath) - One of the most important political and spiritual centers during the Iron Age. Tara was believed to be the seat of the High Kings of Ireland. The site includes several ancient monuments, such as the Lia Fáil (Stone of Destiny) and various ringforts, barrows, and burial mounds.
  7. The Rath of the Synods is a prominent circular earthwork that played a significant role in ancient Ireland. This large enclosure, measuring about 90 meters (295 feet) in diameter, is thought to have served as a ceremonial gathering place.
