  2. What I love about Endless Space 2 - it is immersive for me due to combination of strategic level and tactical combat: - The combat is not just doomstack throwing (think CK3 or Stellaris) - It is not micromanaging tactics (age of wonders planetfall) In endless space I truly feel like a commander: I give orders and see if it works or not.
  3. Space Empire 5 and Imperium Galactica 2, but their graphics are quite dated. Sword of the Stars 2 had also a good Combat System but was lacking in the other sectors and very slow. Hegemonia Legions of Iron was also good. Not 4x but a great space game with the best fleet combat (at least for me) was Nexus, the Jupiter Incident with a great campaign.
  4. Okay, here's my list of games. Fleet-based space battles are a love of mine so this thread is great! Top-down Fleet-management games: SPAZ (& kinda SPAZ 2), Reassembly, Cosmoteer, Space-haven, Particle-Fleet Emergance, Flotilla. Cosmoteer is the most "fun" modern game you'd enjoy, in my opinion. First-person Fleet-management games: From the Depths
  5. The problem with all Star wars space combat games is the ships fly like normal planes. They can't go backwards, left, right, up or down. You can only go forward, yaw, pitch and roll. If you want full range of movement in space I would recommend ever space 2, Star point Gemini 3, elite dangerous, even Overload is better at space combat.
  6. Predestination and Pax Nova both got mixed reviews, but they're the only recent space 4X games that have even as much as Civ-style planet maps and unit movement. If you're looking for a space 4X with land combat (and units) as intricate as Shadow Empire or all the WW2 sims in the Matrix/Slitherine stores, I know of no such beast.
  7. I really like everspace 2 but it doesn't really scratch that ace combat in space itch that i have. Does anyone know a game that's more about piloting a spacecraft rather than abilities and rpg elements. Pls don't say star citizen or elite dangerous i don't have the hardware to run that.
  8. 100000% customisation. Tactical combat, full space ship combat rules that include speed, vectors of travel and system loadouts. All weaponry is not only put together with modular components. But there are rules for building your own while maintaining game balance. There's also mods for weapons and armour.
  9. Turn-based combat, yes MoO2 was solid for its day and still holds up as a benchmark in the genre. SiS is quite fun combat-wise as well. I could throw out that I feel the Turn-Based WeGo BSG: Deadlock is one of the more tactical combat games ever. It makes sense to have more tactics in turn-based combat.
  10. Freespace 2 is the king of space combat shooty games. It came out in 1999, but there's an active open source community around it that has made it much better to play on modern systems. Not to mention there's a ton of free fanmade content for it.
  11. The 4x game with the best combat as far as I know is Aurora 4x, every single weapon has it uses, and since you design your ships yourself many tactics may end up being unique to yourself, the combat is turn based but every turn is 5 seconds so it is almost real time, you can tell each one of your ships what to shoot, with which weapon (if you ...
