These increased from 31.2 million in 2022 to 38.0 million in 2023, but were 7% lower than pre-coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic levels when the number was estimated to be 40.9 million.

  11. Oct 18, 2024Data for the months within 2021 now correctly sum to annual totals published in other travel and tourism tables. 17 May 2024. As a result of a processing error, estimates of visits by overseas residents from Europe for July to September 2022 were overestimated by 1,000. We have now corrected this data.
