An Steall
A lovely walk through the steep-sided Nevis Gorge to an impressive waterfall, An Steall, cascading from a hanging valley (Coire A' Mhail). This is a very impressive short walk with much geological and botanical interest, as well as stunning mountain views of the slopes of Ben Nevis, and some of the mountains of The Mamores.
West Highland Museum
There is also part of an oak long boat, believed to be 8,000 years old, and a small collection of stuffed birds. These are just a few of the many highlights. Situated on the High Street in Fort William, the museum is free to enter and is well worth a visit.
Glen Nevis Visitor Centre
Glen Nevis Visitor Centre is located on the Glen Nevis Road, approximately 2km from Fort William It is run by The Highland Council and supports a Visitor Exhibition, Shop, Toilets and car parking. The shop sells a range of products, including a good selection of books, maps, travel/safety equipment for walkers and a some gifts.
Old Fort
The fort, was named Fort William, after King William III, with the name of Queen being bestowed on the nearby settlement of Maryburgh. The town was later named Gordonsburgh, then Duncansburgh and finally Fort William. The fort also marks the western start/end of the Great Glen Way, a 73 mile long distance route.
Treasures of The Earth
The Treasures of the Earth contains one of the largest private collections of crystals and gemstones in Europe, as well as a fine collection of marine fossils. The Nevis Range
Aonach Mor, near Fort William, in Lochaber is the eighth largest mountain in Scotland at 1221m high. It is part of volcanic complex of Ben Nevis, which includes Aonach Beag and Càrn Mòr Dearg, the latter linked to Ben Nevis by an impressive arête.
