  2. Pocahontas County is a largely rural area in northwest Iowa. Various tribes of Indians roamed the area in earlier times, and hunted buffalo here. The economy has been based on farming since the area was first settled by Americans of European descent in the late 1800's. The land is generally flat and extremely fertile.
