What is Cancer?
Cancer is a disorder of cell growth (uncontrolled cell division) that results in an abnormal mass of tissue (tumor) without a purpose. The growth exceeds that of normal tissue, is un-coordinated, and persists after the cause has gone. There are many different types of cancers.
Fibrosarcomas in Dogs
A fibrosarcoma is a type of soft tissue cancer (see handout "Soft Tissue Sarcomas"). Fibrosarcomas are most commonly found on the limbs (often the extremities) and the trunk of the body. They can also be found in the nasal cavity or mouth, sometimes invading the jaw bones.
Intestinal Tumors
Intestinal tumors are uncommon in dogs and cats. There are many kinds, including leiomyosarcomas, lymphomas, adenocarcinomas, mast cell tumors, GISTs, plasmacytomas, carcinoids, and osteosarcomas (all malignant) and leiomyomas, adenomatous polyps, and adenomas (all benign).
