But as US-China tensions grew in January 2019, the company paused its plans in China and instead looked at finding customers for the project in the EMEA region.
Alphabet Inc's Google said on Wednesday it has shut down its cloud project named "Isolated Region" and added that it was not weighing options to offer its cloud platform in China.
A Google spokeswoman refuted the claims made by the employees, telling Bloomberg that Isolated Region wasn't shut down for either of the given reasons and that the company "does not offer and has not offered cloud platform services inside China".
