    PostCapitalism

    Book by Paul Mason

PostCapitalism: A Guide to Our Future is a 2015 book by British journalist and writer Paul Mason. In the book, Mason discusses the existential threat posed to capitalism by the digital revolution. He argues that the digital revolution has the potential to reshape utterly our familiar notions of work, production and value; and to destroy an economy based on markets and private ownership. In fact, he contends, this is already happening. He points to parallel currencies, co-operatives, self-managed online spaces, and even Wikipedia as examples of what the postcapitalist future might look like. Mason argues that from the ashes of the financial crisis of 2007–2008, we have the chance to create a more socially just and sustainable global economy. Wikipedia

While there is no clear-cut definition of what post-capitalism would look like, it generally refers to an economic system that is based on values such as collaboration, community, and sustainability, rather than the pursuit of profit and individual gain.

Equally influential has been Paul Mason's PostCapitalism: A Guide to our Future and his more recent Clear Bright Future: A Radical Defence of the Human Being. Postcapitalism in this sense proposes a nascent 'ism' that is set to replace 'capitalism' with a more equitable and inclusive, technologically driven economic system. Secondly, there is a contrasting use of 'postcapitalist politics' that signals not another future

As anyone with ambitions other than living as a hermit (or who doesn't possess a unique gift for kleptomania) will tell you, capitalism can still very much be described as "a thing". Some people think the move to postcapitalism will be inevitable due to the laws of economics; others believe a postcapitalist system must be designed to deliberately correct the flaws of the current system.

Jul 20, 2023But before embarking on creating the literature, we first had to clarify the basic concept of postcapitalism. It is one of those terms that at first generate wonder, not to say recoil and mistrust, regarding the possibility of being translated into an attainable way of life, but which on closer examination become vital and obvious.
