Using 3rd-Party Mapping Apps on Mobile Devices

DuckDuckGo never tracks you, and our search engine has clever ways of providing accurate local search results while keeping your location anonymous

Some users may want to use a 3rd-party app to get directions on their mobile device, so we’ve introduced a way to do this on iOS and Android.

How To Select a 3rd-Party Mapping App

When you search for a local result, e.g., a restaurant nearby, you’ll have the option of using a 3rd-party app to help you navigate your way there: 

If you click on Directions, you’ll see a list of navigation apps to choose from:

You can pick the app you’d like to use each time or save that choice for future journeys. 

If you need to, you can change your preferred navigation app in Settings. Just go to Settings > General > Default Navigation App.

3rd-Party App Privacy

Bear in mind that when you leave DuckDuckGo to use an external app, you will no longer have the same privacy protections in place. Information, such as your precise location, may be visible to the map provider.
